Something Blue
This is my current work in progress, a novel about three generations of Southern women trying to survive a wedding. It's not as sweet as Small Change, but it's a whole lot funnier, and anyone with a family will relate. Here's the first chapter.

Smashing Pumpkins
This is a really odd horror story I wrote as part of a writing exercise from Stephen King's On Writing. I was pleased with how it turned out, but be prepared: this story contains adult language and a good bit of gore. It is not a "nice" story.
About Writing In General....
This seems a place as good as any to say that writing, for me, takes a good bit of time. These days, holding down a full-time job and also pursuing my artistic endeavors, finding the time is harder than ever. It generally takes me a good hour of rereading the previous chapter to get my mind back into the story, and by that time, more often than not, I have to stop to do something completely mundane -- i.e. go to work, go to bed, feed the cat, run the vacuum, watch CSI.... redesign this website.....

The fact that Small Change, while it had respectable sales for a small book from a small publisher and an unknown author, did not catapult me to the top (or even the bottom) of the bestseller list, has taken a toll on my motivation. Writing is a lot like going on a diet. It takes time and dedication, and it may take months or even years before you see any results at all. It's so easy to put it off.

If, by any chance, you are (like my mother and my agent, Elizabeth Pomoda) waiting for me to get another book out there, I offer my most humble apologies. I am trying. Honest. Really.
